TOWN OF EDGECOMB SCHMID ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
May 18, 2005, Town Hall
- The meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 7:00 p.m. Committee members present were Jo Cameron, Bob Leone, Deborah Sondergaard and David Tonry. Also present were Janet Blevins, Katharine Braid, Faith Coakley, John Markowski, and Betty Twarog.
Public Input:
Faith Coakley complimented the committee on the newsletter. Janet Blevins suggested that the rules posted on the kiosks include instructions to horse people to clean up after their horses.
- Chairman’s Report - Bob Leone
- Review of Meeting Minutes: There were no additions or corrections.
- Next meeting: June 15, 2004
- Summer hiatus: There will be no meetings in July and August.
- Selectman’s Report - Jo Cameron
- Town Meeting: If necessary, Bob Leone will speak at Town Meeting on the committee's request for $1,000 and on the status of the loan
- Land Acquisition, Boundaries and Roads - David Tonry
- Draft project agreement: The check for $31,796 representing the Land for Maine's Future grant to the Town to repay the Woods End fund is expected by June 9th.
- Church Property: Bob Leone reported that he had updated Lauren Stockwell of the Boothbay Regional Land Trust on the Lallis and Church properties. She proposed that BRLT buy the Church property with funds from River~Link and other donors and trade it to the Town of Edgecomb for the Lallis property. Representatives of the BRLT spoke with the Selectmen about the proposal; however, some of the Selectmen were more focused on keeping the property which is appraised at $185,000 on the tax rolls. Asked if the land trust would pay taxes on the property, the BRLT representatives pointed out that they always make donations to the Town. They also suggested that the land be put into tree growth and that they would pay the Town the tree tax.
- Haselton grant status: Bob Leone reported that the Committee did not get the $4900 grant from the Boston Foundation for which Amanda Russell had applied.
- Public Relations and Stewardship - Andrew Abello and Deb Sondergaard
- Spring Newsletter: Costs for the newsletter included $75 for postage and $175 for printing, for a total of $250. One hundred brochures have been ordered for the Annual Town Meeting.
- Bob Brown Parking Lot and work trips: Bob Leone reported that on one work trip volunteers had cleaned up the Moose Trail, the yellow trail, the blue trail and the Dance Hall trail. On the second work trip the underbrush had been cleared between the road and the parking lot, giving better visibility into the parking lot. There have been problems lately with people parking in the lot and leaving beer bottles. Chris Bertin will be asked to block the entrance from Old County Road because vehicles have been driving around the gate and have torn up the ground.
- Trails - Jim Beam
- Bridge construction: Bob Leone reported that Bob Brown will saw the wood for the bridge by the end of the month. Bob Leone will work on the railings.
- June work trips: June 6 and 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. were tentatively scheduled for work trips. Anyone interested should call Deb Sondergaard to confirm the date.
- Other Business
John Markowski reported that Henny Townsend had told him about a historic viewpoint in the preserve where there used to be picnic tables and one could see Boothbay Harbor. Trees now block the view. John will find out the exact location.
- Public Input and Comment
David Tonry reported that he had repainted half the boundary markers in the
southern part of the preserve and would do the rest soon
