TOWN OF EDGECOMB SCHMID ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES

February 18, 2005, Town Hall

  1. The meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 7:05 p.m. Committee members present were Andrew Abello, Jim Beam, Jo Cameron, Bob Leone, and Deborah Sondergaard. Also present were Janet Blevins, Katharine Braid, Faith Coakley, Barry Hathorne and Betty Twarog.

     

    Public Input:

    It was reported that the Schmid Preserve forester was suffering from cancer.

     

  2. Chairman’s Report - Bob Leone
    1. Review of Meeting Minutes: There were no additions or corrections.
    2. Next meeting: March 16, 2004
    3. New Board member: Bob Leone reported that Chris Riser will be joining the Advisory Committee.
  3. Selectman’s Report - Jo Cameron
    1. Draft 2005 budget: Jo Cameron said the chairman was scheduled to meet with the Budget Committee on February 28. Bob Leone reviewed with the Committee the draft budget for $1,250 for 2005. The Town will be asked for $1,000 and the carryover will make up the difference. The budget covers administration (9 meetings), mowing, brochure, and newsletter.
  4. Land Acquisition, Boundaries and Roads - David Tonry
    1. Draft project agreement: Bob Leone reported that Cathy Eichenberg, Department of Conservation, had approved the draft agreement and forwarded it to Attorney Surran Pyne. He will contact her to set up a meeting to sign the agreement, after which money can be disbursed.
    2. Boundary survey: Some of the boundaries will be marked each year. David Tonry will draft a schedule for this early spring project.
    3. Old County Road access: Bob Leone will contact Chris Bertin to see if he will move large stones to block the area where people drive around the gate.
  5. Public Relations and Stewardship - Andy Abello and Deb Sondergaard
    1. Spring Newsletter: Andy Abello will write a newsletter to be issued late April or early May before Town Meeting. Possible subjects for articles are the grant, bridge, signs, and LFMF in addition to photos.
    2. Town report: Bob Leone will prepare the Town report which is due February 28.
  6. Trails - Jim Beam
    1. Bridge Construction: February 27 was scheduled for work on the bridge. Deb Sondergaard will contact Matt Jones to see if he and his snowmobile are available to help on that day. If he is unavailable, pruning on the Ridge and Link trails can be done on that day.
  7. Other Business

    Barry Hathorne will mow one field this summer.

    Jo Cameron reported interest in the Lallis property which the Town has taken for taxes. The Selectmen are discussing obtaining an appraisal and putting it on the market. She said the Town will be expecting back taxes if the Boothbay Land Trust is interested in acquiring the property.

    Barry Hathorne asked about the Undas' property and Bob Leone said he will contact Mrs. Unda again, as she was interested in walking the property to see what the Schmid Committee might be interested in.

    Jim Beam asked the committee's opinion on allowing two dog trainers to use the Haggett Field late summer or early fall. The trainers have to go through the State in order to obtain pheasants which they release and then shoot over the dogs. Bob Leone will do some research on the request.
