TOWN OF EDGECOMB SCHMID ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES

February 21, 2007, Town Hall

  1. Call to Order

    Chairman Bob Leone called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. Board members present were Andy Abello, Bob Leone, Deborah Sondergaard and David Tonry. Also present were Janet Blevins, Betty Twarog, and Michael Woodruff. There was no public input.

  2. Chairman’s Report - Bob Leone
    1. Review of Meeting Minutes:
      The minutes of January 24, 2007 were accepted
    2. Next meeting:
      March 21, 2007
  3. Selectman’s Report - Jo Cameron
    1. Draft Budget Review:
      Bob Leone distributed a draft budget for 2007 showing total proposed expenditures of $1250, an increase of $200 over the previous year. Changes were the addition of $300 for mowing and the elimination of $100 for a kiosk at McKay Road. The budget has been given to the Selectmen.
    2. Town Report:
      Bob Leone will prepare a Schmid Preserve report for the Town Report.
  4. Land Acquisition, Boundaries and Roads - David Tonry
    1. Haselton Fund-raising:
      Bob Leone reported that the Committee's goal of raising the final $4900 had been reached with the matching donation from Roger Bintliff. Bob will send letters thanking donors.
    2. Preserve Access Signage:
      The signs are being made and Bob Leone hopes to install them soon.
    3. River~Link Signage:
      Bob Leone displayed a sample River~Link trail marker to be used on the River~Link trail in the preserve. A larger version of the marker with a list of River~Link partners below will be used for the kiosks.
  5. Public Relations and Stewardship - Andy Abello and Deb Sondergaard
    1. Endowment Planning:
      Bob Leone and Martin Achilles will meet with the Selectmen on February 26 to discuss endowment planning. Amanda Russell may make contacts regarding endowment seed money.
    2. March Moonlight Hike:
      Andy Abello will lead the moonlight hike on March 3 if there is enough snow, and ice is not a problem. Betty Twarog noted that there is an eclipse of the moon on that night. Andy will put a notice in the paper and call people if the hike is going to take place.
    3. .Field Mowing:
      The Board will pay the bill for mowing as soon as it is received. Barry Hathorne has indicated the price for mowing the fields will be increased. Barry also said that he thinks there is more acreage in the fields than the Board is being paid for mowing. David Tonry will help calculate the measurements.
  6. Trails - Jim Beam
    1. February 4th Worktrip Report:
      The brush-burning was a success; there is one more pile to burn which will be done after the snow melts.
  7. Other Business

    None

  8. Public Input and Comment

    Betty Twarog encouraged the Board to find a person to rout the Middle Road sign.

  9. Adjourn

    The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
