TOWN OF EDGECOMB SCHMID ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
June 21, 2006, Town Hall
- The meeting was called to order by Bob Leone, Chairman, at 7:05 p.m. Committee members present were Andy Abello, Bob Leone, Chris Riser, David Tonry and Deborah Sondergaard. Also present were Janet Blevins, Katharine Braid, Barry Hathorne, and Betty Twarog. There was no public input.
- Chairman’s Report - Bob Leone
- Review of Meeting Minutes: Bob Leone corrected his statement under Section 3a to indicate that there were warrant articles pertaining to the Church and Lallis properties.
- Next meeting: September 20, 2004
- Board Member Status: The terms of Bob Leone and Deborah Sondergaard expire in 2006 and both are willing to serve for another three years.
- Selectman’s Report
- Review of Town Meeting: Bob Leone reported that the Church and Lallis articles were approved as well as the Committee's budget and rollover.
- Land Acquisition, Boundaries and Roads - David Tonry
- Haselton Fund-raising: Bob Leone reported that $1,000 in pledges has been received, leaving $1,400 to be raised. He will draft a letter to be sent to prospective donors.
- Church/Lallis Status: Bob Leone reported both parcels have been surveyed and Boothbay attorneys are working on the federal lien. The BBRLT is interested in talking to another landowner adjacent to the narrow part of the Lallis property so that the trail could be widened out.
- River~Link Route North Toward Dodge Point: Steve Huffnagel has indicated that, from Dodge Point to the Schmid Preserve, land has been purchased, an easement granted or verbal approval given for the River~Link trail and he has mapped out a tentative route. Because the trail would go through a swampy area, he will be contacting two landowners for easements so the trail can avoid the swamp.
- Public Relations and Stewardship - Andy Abello and Deb Sondergaard
- Road Closure Update: The lock on the Old County Road gate was missing and has been
replaced.
- Rain Cancellations: The hike on National Trails Day and the work-trip of the Outing Club on June 4th were cancelled because of rain
- Newsletter: Andy Abello will work on the newsletter for September publication. Requests for articles or information were given to members.
- Trails - Jim Beam
- Maintenance Work-trip Monday, June 26: Volunteers will meet at Old County Road on Sunday at 5 p.m. instead of Monday.
- Meadow Brook Bridge: Work on the approach and railings will begin after July 4th. Bob Brown has volunteered wood for the railings.
- Other Business
Barry Hathorne volunteered to help Deb cut brush around the old foundations. He suggested that the members look for photos of the structures which once existed where now only the foundations remain.
Barry Hathorne will mow the Middle Road field after August 21 and he asked that the committee members clear brush around the sides of the field and under the trees. Ted Smith will be given permission to cut down the alders and choke cherry trees between the road and the field.
