TOWN OF EDGECOMB SCHMID ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
December 15, 2004, Town Hall
- The meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 7:00 p.m. Committee members present were Andrew Abello, Jo
Cameron, Bob Leone, Deborah Sondergaard and David Tonry. Also present were Janet Blevins and Katharine Braid. There
was no public comment. .....
- Chairman’s Report - Bob Leone
- Review of Meeting Minutes: There were no additions or corrections
- Next meeting - January 19, 2005.
- Board membership: Steve Peters has expressed interest in joining the committee.
- Selectman’s Report - Jo Cameron
- Jo recommended raising the secretary’s rate of pay to $12.50 per hour, the same as the Planning Board’s rate. David
Tonry moved, Andy Abello seconded to raise the secretary’s pay rate to $12.50 per hour and the motion was approved.
- Land Acquisition, Boundaries and Roads - David Tonry
- Draft project agreement: Bob Leone reported that Kathy Eichenberg, Department of Conservation, will follow up on the
progress of the agreement. Bob will make sure that Surran Pyne has received the necessary forms from Mark
DesMeules.
- Glenice Church Property: Bob Leone has given the name and address of the Town appraiser (O’Donnell Associates) to
Dawn Kidd at Boothbay Regional Land Trust so that she can get the Town’s appraiser and Glenice Church’s appraiser
together to resolve the discrepancy in their valuations of the property.
- Gate Closure: The gates were closed on Sunday, December 12th.
- Public Relations and Stewardship - Andy Abello and Deb Sondergaard
- Haselton Grant: Andy Abello said that the Boston Foundation had found the grant application for $4,900 complete and
will make its decision in March
- Knox - Lincoln County Soil and Water Conservation District: Mary Tiel of the conservation district has contacted the
chairman regarding the Schmid Committee becoming a cooperator and had sent an application. The Schmid Committee
will be on the mailing list and may be able to qualify for cost-sharing programs.
- Bird Boxes: Bob Leone will attempt to get some materials donated for this winter project. Andy Abello has two bluebird
boxes and volunteered to make more which will also attract tree swallows.
- Newsletter: A spring newsletter is planned in March or April.
- Brochure update - David Tonry has ordered brochures from the Copy Shop. The new parking area has been added.
- Trails - Jim Beam
- Pruning workshop: No one attended the workshop, so it was decided to hold another workshop in the March.
- Bridge construction: The stringers have been placed across the brook and spiked in place. Matt Jones has volunteered
to use his snow machine and sled to take the lumber to the site.
- Winter trail work: Tentative plans were made to do trail work on snowshoes depending on the weather.
- Other Business
Chester Brewer of Dresden has made application to trap fisher on the preserve. The committee approved the request and a
letter will be sent to him with guidelines and giving him permission to trap until August 31, 2005.
