Minutes for Sep 27, 2007

Present: Sue Carlson, President; Roslyn Strong, Vice-President; Ruth Bryant, Treasurer; Jo Cameron, Secretary; Rebecca Graham, Su Ripley, Gertrude Allen.

The minutes of May 24, 2007, were approved as read

The Treasurer's report was approved. Current assets are $1,271.80; 6 memberships were taken at this meeting.

The above slate of officers were re-elected, by vote of the Secretary on behalf of the group. Cathy Orne, our genealogist, was elected, in absentia, to the board of directors, replacing Madine Nichols.

Sue reviewed our decision to make Industrial Edgecomb our topic for this year. Granite quarries, mica/feldspar mines, boatyards, salt pans, brick yards and mills for various materials were discussed as possible field trips and foci of research.

Jo reviewed the progress of the Fort Edgecomb Bicentennial. Over the summer, the State's Bureau of Parks and Lands has had the exterior reshingled, all except the roof, which must wait until spring. A local work party organized by the Friends of Fort Edgecomb to sweep out the blockhouse and stain its interior walls is planned for early October.

The group examined sample pages from the Ballard Survey of the Architectural History of Edgecomb. The master copy is with the Maine State Archives. One copy is in the Edgecomb Town Hall vault; another in the EHS room in the Edgecomb Eddy School library.

Respectfully submitted,

Joanna M. Cameron

Secretary
