Minutes for Nov 29, 2007

Present: Marsha Potter, Cathy Orne, Rebecca Townsend, Ruth Bryant, Roslyn Strong, Suzanne Carlson, Zibette Dean, Jo Cameron.

The minutes of October 25, 2007 were approved as read. The Treasurer reported dues in the amount $10.00, $.90 interest, for a balance of $1,470.68. There were no expenditures. The Treasurer's report was unanimously approved.

President Sue Carlson reported a potential member, Jeff Koopus, a cabinet maker. Dave and Iska Cole have sold their Shore Road house. Polly Thompson's house has been rented, but the resident is not known.

An inquiry was received about the Cunningham family, which was referred to Cathy Orne. Jo reported an inquiry as to the location of the "Marie Antoinette House," to which she has replied.

Jo described Friends of Fort Edgecomb plans, with a need of monies for the Bicentennial celebration and several fundraising events. Sue asked if this were an appropriate use for the Maro Hammond Memorial Fund? Jo will ask Debby Hammond. If $3,000 to $5,000 might be raised, it could be used to leverage more funds. Alternatives would be to find private persons who would be willing to extend matching funds. The importance of the event for the Town of Edgecomb was stressed.

We discussed developing a list of early industrial sites, as a resource for the Comprehensive Plan. How track them down and record them? Zibette mentioned the state list of archaeologically sensitive sites. To help refine the town's zoning ordinances, EHS could flag important sites and threatened buildings, to protect them with variances as needed. Could any of these buildings be moved?

It was decided not to continue the EHS inventory at this time. The meeting was adjourned at 3:15 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Joanna M. Cameron
