The purpose of this Planning Board is to interpret and administer the Land Use Ordinance as approved by the voters of Edgecomb, Maine.  In taking their respective oaths of office, board members have sworn to uphold that ordinance as well as the laws of the state and federal governments.  We, as a board, are NOT here to either approve or disapprove any application because we may personally like or dislike the applicant, the project, or any other factor that may sway the outcome.  We are obviously resolved to use the same logic regarding personal opinions of abutters and other individuals who speak at public meetings regarding these same applicants/applications.

However, public comment will be taken during our regularly scheduled meetings in a time-limited manner even though law does not require it.  Pertinent and useful information will be considered.  Public comment must be kept brief, (2-3 minutes per person, 15-20 minutes total) and any individual issue will be discussed once and not revisited.  As a board we can not discuss any case beforehand and therefore need the meeting time to make findings of fact and question the applicant.  As long as everyone works together, this comment time will continue at each public meeting.  Unfortunately, if it causes too great a time delay, it will be stopped, as we have application time limits imposed by law that we cannot disregard.  Written statements may be read into the record by the author or a representative of a group so long as a copy is submitted to the Board to be included in the permanent record of the meeting.
