Most important: Come to the Special Town Meeting, Thursday, July 26, 7:00 p.m. at the Edgecomb Town Hall! We need to complete our Roads budget, amend ordinances concerning construction blasting and sewer usage, provide mooring equipment for the Waterfront Committee. Since fiscal issues are involved, residents are well advised to attend. See you there!

‘Tis the season of surveys. I hope you have all turned in the questionnaire sent you by the Edgecomb Comprehensive Plan Task Force a few weeks ago. Now clear your decks for #2: The Broadband Internet Committee wants to know what you have currently for upload and download, and what you want (See the press release elsewhere in these papers). This is a topic which has touched many an Edgecomb nerve, so we anticipate plenty of response! The committee can be reached on the website at broadband@edgecomb.org. Our thanks to Northrup Fowler III, Barry Hathorne, Todd Carleton, Janet Blevins and John Markowski for trying to fill "the Black Hole of Edgecomb"!!

Green and Grubby Sunday: The Edgecomb Congregational Church devotes its "Fifth Sundays" to a variety of activities. This coming Fifth Sunday, July 29, following the service will occur a thorough cleaning up of church grounds and "forgotten corners." That's the Grubby. As for the Green, the sanctuary's spotlights will be changed to new ultra-high technology low wattage spots with a 13,000 hour lamp life, which use only 25% the electricity of conventional spots. Hmm. How many Edgecomb Congregationalists to change a light bulb....?

And then, Saturday, August 4, ECC Summer Supper #3, the Lobstah Dinnah, from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. or until the food runs out. Lobster dinners are $17, and can be ordered eat-in or to go; chicken for $7 and kids can have hotdogs for $3. All of these options include corn on the cob, salads, baked beans, blueberry cake, chips and beverages. Reservations are strongly suggested. Call 563-5236 or 882-4060, and leave a message with your phone number. Offers of food donations, serving or clean-up help are also appreciated

The beneficiary of this dinner is Mandala Farm, whose farmhouse burned this spring, leaving ten people homeless. The Farm is run by the H.O.M.E. organization, whose mission is to meet people's needs for shelter, food, employment, education and health care. H.O.M.E. is part of the world-wide Emmaus Movement, whose motto is "Serve first those who suffer most."

The University of Maine at Orono's Dean's List includes four Edgecomb students: Rita Sieracki, David Nickerson, Nicole Brooks and Rebecca Riser. Meanwhile, last seen swimming like crazy for the Boothbay Y, Niall Janney has earned high honors for his spring term as a junior at Phillips Exeter Academy. Splendid job, all!

Meanwhile, Bruce and I have enjoyed three days with friends on Eagle Island, one of the many smaller islands in the Deer Isle Archipelago. We hiked about on the island, sailed around the archipelago (what a wonderful word!) and noshed home baked goods at Eagle Island's central locus, the Quinn Farm.
