This past weekend was a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Bruce and Jo Cameron of River Road, Edgecomb. Daughters Daphne Klemme of Northford, CT, and Bisi Yee of Cincinnati, OH, hosted a fabulous party on Saturday. Daphne is writing this column to go along with the festivities.

We held the party at the Montsweag Roadhouse on Rte. 1 in Walpole. It was the perfect venue, as the guests enjoyed salmon on toast, roast beef sandwiches, chicken satay, and their signature Roadhouse salad. The children in attendance enjoyed learning how to play pool and darts. We would especially like to thank the two waitstaff, Ruth and Ali, who made sure all the guests had plenty to drink and helped serve the cake.

Angie Richards on the River Road re-created their wedding cake. Angie is the niece of Marilyn Richards, who made the icing for the original cake. The cake was beautiful, with antique baskets filled with gold foil leaves and gold-tinged frosting roses. There were four layers: chocolate, carrot, spice, and vanilla.

The party was a perfect chance for Dad and Mom to reconnect with old friends and lost relatives, as well as to include the new friends who are now part of their lives. After the Montsweag party we retired to the Cameron home for a more intimate gathering. We were treated to incredibly fresh Damariscotta River oysters obtained from Glidden Point Oyster Farm. The oysters were served on the half shell. This was a chance for newly found cousin Pat Watts of New Hampshire and me to partake of this delicacy for our first time. We were both happy to get it over with and can now say we had raw oysters and survived.

And now for town events... Edgecomb must have a Special Town Meeting to address several omissions from the May Town Meeting warrant. The STM is scheduled for Thursday, July 26, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Town Hall. A Public Informational Meeting will form part of the Selectmen's meeting on Monday, July 9, and incidentally, Selectmen's meetings are starting at 6:00 p.m. as of June 11. The Monday, July 16 meeting will include a Public Hearing on the warrant articles. Mom will be repeating this news item ad nauseam through the July 26 issues of the several papers, with more details as they develop. Be sure to look at the Public Notice section, also.

Make space on your calendars for the second Edgecomb Congregational Church Summer Supper on July 7. This supper's benefit focus will be ECC's sister church in Nortontown, Zimbabwe, and their joint selfhelp project, providing more fabric to help Nortontown women continue to make clothing, especially the uniforms required by Zimbabwe schools. The supper (church supper basic: beans, casseroles, salads, rolls, beverages and desserts; dietetic desserts available) will run from 5:00 to 6:30 pm., adults $6.00, children under 12, $3.00. "Good Food, Good Fellowship, for a Good Cause." For anyone who wishes to help out with preparation or clean-up, call Gail Boudin, 882-7972, or the Church office, 882-4060.

The Boothbay region Peace and Justice group have resumed their weekly Thursday vigils as of June 21st. The vigils take place on the sidewalk just south of the Hannaford market on Townsend Avenue between 1 to 2 pm. They have also voted to back the "Declaration of Peace,"a nationwide campaign to establish a comprehensive plan for peace. If you are interested in joining them, there they will be! And glad to see you! Or go to the website www.peaceboothbay.net.

Wiscasset High School National Honor Society students recently visited the Lincoln County Animal shelter in Edgecomb to help with the animals. Hannah Sieracki of Edgecomb was one of the nine students who were there.

The 2007 moose drawing winners have been announced: Bull-only permit winners from Edgecomb are Dedham Atwell, Evan Chelsea, Rachel Getchell, Brian Giles, and Katharine Walton. I wish them luck with a successful hunt.

As part of the grand opening ceremonies for the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, ladybugs were released into Founders Grove. Amanda Boucher and Courtney Chaney were among the kids who released the insects.

The Art for Outreach Gallery will present local artists' works at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Parish House in Newcastle, for sale or for bid. Among the artists represented this year is Brady Nickerson on the River Road.. Mark your calendars to attend the show on Friday, July 6th from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, the day of the Lawn Party, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Putting our feet up and enjoying the moment, the whole Cameron family resting at 234 River Road, 633-2978, jocam@midcoast.com. This column appears in several local papers, and at www.Edgecomb.org.
