Poised on the cusp of leaving for suburban Philadelphia, there is one item I want to be sure my fellow Edgecombites know about.
There will be a Special Town Meeting in late July. Here is a tentative schedule of public meetings
was agreed upon, to be voted upon, subject to any changes, at the Selectmen's meeting of June 11,
which from now on will start at 6:00 p.m.
• Monday, July 9, one informational meeting, as part of the regular Selectmen's meeting
• Monday, July 16, a Public Hearing, as part of the regular Selectmen's meeting
• Thursday, July 26, the Special Town Meeting, starting at 7:00 p.m.
The most important warrant article will be the completion of the Road Department's 2007-2008 allocation for local roads' maintenance. Stuart Smith explained that of the requested $43,500, only $24,750 had been approved at the May 19 Town Meeting. An additional $18,750 will be requested at the STM, as well as an amount of $12,000 needed to complete the final hottop of the Cross Point Road improvement project. Total to be requested for the Town's approval: $30,750.
An additional warrant article will amend the Blasting Ordinance by adding a specific schedule of penalty dollar amounts as provided by Maine Statute Title 30-A, part 2, subpart 6-A, Chapter 186, section 4452.3: Civil penalties, A, B, B-1 and C. (See Appendix 2). This proposed warrant article should be reviewed and approved by the CEO. Another warrant article will make minor amendments to the Sewer Ordinance.
Because of Lee Smith's illness and I hear that she is progressing very nicely Claudia Coffin has been voted unanimously by the Selectmen to be a Deputy Tax Collector, in Lee's absence. Martha Speed will also be appointed to the position, vote to be taken at the June 11 Selectmen's meeting.
The Town also needs at least 3 persons to serve on the Appeals Board, as full members and alternates. Call the Town Hall, 882-7018 during office hours, Mondays, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Leave your name, phone number and position for which you wish to be considered, and we will get back to you this following week.
Generally speaking, the Appeals Board work load is light. Some training will be provided. It is a bit urgent just now to have a full board, without which we cannot handle appeals, because there is an appeal pending.
In other, lighter news: Damariscotta Farmer's Market is adding Mondays, starting June 18, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the Damariscotta River Association grounds, through August.
