Good thing Bruce and I made our trip to Portland before the Big Storm! We saw the Portland Museum of Art's exhibit of Goya's Los Caprichos, haunting grotesque satirical drawings of human evils, as true for today, alas, as for early 19th-century Spain. He started these drawings after he realized he had gone quite deaf, late in his life. We also enjoyed the works of John Brewster, Jr., an American itinerant portrait painter of roughly the same era, who, oddly enough, was also deaf! Then we had a grand dinner at Street and Co., a seafood house on Wharf Street. We recommend. If you're curious, Goya is at the museum through Feb. 25.

Late breaking news! Robert Lovinski on Town Hall Road [in Edgecomb] was driving toward Wiscasset at 6 a.m. Friday morning when he saw fire coming from Bintliff's Ocean Grill. He stopped, called the Edgecomb Fire Department, and was able to contain the fire until the EFD arrived. It was extinguished quickly, with no damage to the buildings. A big Thank You! from Chief Barry Johnston and all the EFD members!
