76 Trombones! The kids at the Edgecomb Eddy School and their music teacher, Barbara Prose, are very excited about the possibility of starting a band! Says Barbara, "We can only do it, however, if we get band instruments donated, as they are very expensive. Do you have older children, or grown nieces and nephews who have left behind saxophones (tenor and alto), trumpets, flutes and clarinets in forgotten drawers and attic corners? For a rhythm section it would also be great to have an electric guitar, an electric bass, a few electric pianos and a standing cymbal. If you have them, we want them! Please let me know if you are interested in helping gather the resources together for the first ever Edgecomb Eddy School Band! Thanks!" If you have instruments you are willing to donate, let Ms. Prose know, via Principal Joanne Krawic, Phone 207-882-5515; FAX 207-882-5948.
" ... Of the oysters, the Coromandels and the Glidden Points are particularly good..." from a brief review of the Grand Central Oyster Bar in Grand Central Station in the Nov. 27 issue of the New Yorker. Thanks, Duncan Slade, for pointing this out to me, and hurrah for Barbara Scully and her Glidden Point oyster farm in the Damariscotta River! Be sure to stuff your New Year's geese with her oysters, available on the honor system at a kiosk on the River Road.
