Hurrah! Another Edgecomb writer! Okay, so she lives in South Bristol. Nevertheless, Robin Merrow MacCready has committed to teaching Edgecomb's kids, so she's one of ours! Her young adult novel "Buried" has just been released, a "dark and edgy" story of a teenaged girl dealing with an alcoholic mother. Well done!

Sandi Hersom is currently raising money for the Sara Leone Scholarship Fund. She will donate a percentage of all her Cross Point Cupboard (CPC) retail earnings from now (started Nov. 16) to Christmas Day. She will be participating in Becky Beam's Holiday Sale at the Edgecomb Town Hall, Friday and Saturday, November 24 and 25, as well. Any CPC purchase at the sale or from Sandi direct will be included in this donation effort.

2006 "Sara's Stars" will be available again, with a new design. Also, of course, you will find a variety of gift and decorative items. For more information, call Sandi at 882.4283.

Some Wiscasset Middle School stars! Hats off to Edgecomb's members of the Wiscasset Middle School Honor Roll! Solid As and Bs from Erika Harpell, Grade 8, and Hunter Reid, Grade 7! All As from Nate Blackford, Grade 7! Keep sloggin', kids! It's worth it in the end!

For instance, sloggin' will get you to the ASSE International Student Exchange Program for Senior High School students, which is gearing up for another year of opportunities for kids 15 to 18 years of age to go abroad. Qualifications are based on academic performance, character references and a genuine desire to experience life abroad with a volunteer host family. Don't delay to get more information from 1-800-677-2773 or at www.asse.com.

Let us send our condolences to David Nutt on the Mill Road for the passing of his mother Mary Babs Nutt. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, December 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the family home on Dogford Road in Etna NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Now that hunting season is over, the surviving deer population shouts with one voice: "Drive more carefully!" Lately, Sheriff's Department columns are reporting a significant number of car vs. deer collisions. Particularly on the slippery roads after recent heavy rains, please take your night driving seriously! "Thanks, and an extra walnut in the toes of your stockings," say Donder and Blitzen, celebrity co-chairs, the Wary Hoofed Mammal Alliance against Winter Drivers, convening at 234 River Road, 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com. This column appears in several local papers, and at www.Edgecomb.org.
