Looking ahead, on a somber but important note: the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library is hosting a forum on Prevention of Youth Suicide on Sunday, October 1, 1:00 p.m. at the Opera House. All concerned persons are welcome to hear Keynote Speaker Tim Sample, Boothbay resident and DHHS staffer Holly Stover and several local people who have become "community connectors," that is, people whom our region's youth have come to respect and trust, as someone they can turn to. Those listed in recent news articles do not include anyone from Edgecomb. It might be an opportunity for concerned people in our Town.
Members of the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) of Maine ( www.nami.org) will also address the meeting. It will be an opportunity to increase your awareness and knowledge about this problem, and become informed of the resources that exist to assist us all. Warning from BRRDD: People with metal refuse (pieces made of iron, aluminum, brass, iron, copper, etc.) have been tossing it down into the open pit. Recently a worker in the pit was seriously injured by such refuse-tossing. BRRDD now requires you to leave any metal trash on the cement ledge at the end of the "Pick Pile."

My attention has been diverted this past week by an influx of family! Both daughters, one son-in-law, both grandchildren. The Cincinnati contingent are checking out East Coast places they may move to, with workplaces uppermost in their minds. Although New England has its charms, the high favorite to date is the Research Triangle around Raleigh, North Carolina. Johnny is completing his licensing requirements as a respiratory therapist; Bisi plans to continue her management career with the Barnes & Noble bookstore chain. Do you realize there is only one B&N store in Maine? In Augusta.
Enough about me, what about you? Just asking, from 234 River Road, 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com. This column appears in several local papers, and at www.Edgecomb.org.
