A stern reminder to any property owners who still have a balance due on 2005/2006 real estate taxes. To avoid extra charges and the probability of a tax lien, payment needs to be made next week. If mailed, it should be no later than Thursday but payment can be made in person during office hours (Mondays, 8:00-9:00 p.m.; Tuesdays/Thursdays, 1:00-5:00 p.m.). Since by now there is interest due on all balances, please check with Tax Collector Lee Smith on the amount before mailing a check. Since Friday the 19th is Town Election Day, Lee will be at the Town Hall that afternoon and will accept payments then as well. That will be the last day, however, before the lien notices go out.
Edgecomb's Town Meeting is the next day, Saturday, May 20, at the Edgecomb Eddy School auditorium, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or until finished.
For the summer, starting Thursday, May 18, the Edgecomb Congo Thrift Shop will have added hours: Besides Mondays 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and Tuesdays 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., it will be open Thursdays 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The profits are donated to various local worthy causes. For May, Healthy Kids will be the recipient. Call Louise Hardina, 563-5236, for information.
Joan Spurgat has just retired from 16 years as the Children's Librarian at the Wiscasset Public Library. But will she repose in a hammock, sipping lemonade? Ha! She and husband Gary operate the Woodsong Bed and Breakfast on the Cross Point Road. Hammocks and rocking chairs are still far in their future!

You will learn how to identify erosion and sediment control problems on a local unpaved road, and how to solve them, with a special feature on equipment for grading your road. The Morris Farm is offering a number of volunteer opportunities to help lead groups of students through an assortment of "fun stations," which may include animal tours or scavenger hunts, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 18, and from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 26. They also need volunteer docents for the farm's spring field trips. "With a smaller farm staff this year, our field trip program is relying more and more on volunteers. If you can assist with any of these times, please contact Bob Zaino".
Also on the Farm's wishlist, someone to pick up bees from Albany, ME for the upcoming bee workshop. The pick up date is not certain yet, but would be between May 12 and 20. Please call 882-4080 or email if you would be able to assist.
And if you do this, please let me know how it went, with a bucket of bees in your back seat! Nervously curious at 234 River Road, 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com. This column appears in several local papers, and at www.Edgecomb.org.
