Drop everything! Rush over to the Edgecomb Eddy School! The Edgecomb Historical Society is holding forth at 2:00 p.m. in the conference room! Projects galore! Mysteries to unfurl! Celebrations to plan! For those feeling frisky afterwards, a brief field trip to the Baptist Cemetery on Old County Road, to contemplate and advise about the receiving vault, a masterpiece of brickwork, in my opinion. Anyone with knowledge of this cemetery, please get in touch with me! The Selectmen of Edgecomb is working with Pastor Gary Harvey of Chelsea to arrive at the best arrangements for responsibility toward this very lovely small burial place.

The Edgecomb Congregational Sunday School will be traveling to Heifer International's Overlook Farm in Rutland, Mass. this Saturday. After presenting the Foundation with a check for $481.00 they raised as Carpenters' Helpers, they will tour the farm and work on a farming project, as well as preparing a peasant meal. They will spend the night at a nearby motel, and then home on Sunday, April 30. Heifer International is a charity to which donations underwrite the price of selected livestock to be donated to needy farming families the world around. It is one of the highest rated organizations for percent of funds going directly to the cause itself

This coming Sunday, April 30, is another Fifth Sunday! The ECC's third celebration will be a Coffee House at 6:30 p.m. (Note the time!), an informal worship time for sharing ideas, poetry and songs as well as light refreshments and beverages. Mike Finnegan and Margot Stiassni-Sieracki will lead the singing. Local poets Charles Waterman of Wiscasset and Dick Dunphey of Nobleboro, Phil DiVece of Wiscasset will read one of his short stories. Come with examples of your own work or personal favorites, for an open mike! Call the Hardinas at 563-5236 for more information.

Amanda Boucher and her ma, Debby, will be taking tea with the Governor's wife! Amanda will receive an award for her art which has been on display in the State House over the past year. In other achievements, she is now listed in the 2006 Who's Who Among Outstanding Middle School Students. Bravo, bravo!

Call of the Wild! The first of two work parties will be heading into the Schmid Preserve Monday, May 1, starting at 5:00 p.m., to clean up trails or drain any wet spots in the road, expected to take a couple of hours. Meet at the Old County Road entrance! Do it now, before the black flies find you! A second such work party will take place Monday, May 8, same timing, same gathering place. Wear work clothes and stout waterproof footgear. Call Deb Sondergaard, 882.6265 or Bob Leone, 882.9613 to see what to bring.

If you really love the Schmid Preserve, get in touch with Deb or Bob about donating to the fund to make up the $4,900 outstanding from the loan the Committee took out to pay for the Hazelton property, now a core part of the Preserve; it contains the Mt. Hunger Cattle Pound! The Committee has already received a pledge for $2,450, to be matched by our donations! So, 25 people giving $100? 100 people giving $25? Make checks payable to Town of Edgecomb, and earmark them Schmid Preserve Loan.

Now, where did I last see my loppers? Somewhere in the mess at 234 River Road, 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com. This column appears in several local papers, and at www.Edgecomb.org.
