A Public Hearing on amendments to the Town's Land Use Ordinances based on recent changes in Maine legislation will be held Thursday, March 23, at 7:00 p.m. in the Edgecomb Town Hall. The fourteen residents who attended the last informational meeting on these amendments provided some important improvements and sage observations.

Adventurous cooks needed! For making simple Middle Eastern dishes for the Mid-Coast Friends Meeting and the Mid-Coast Unitarian Universalist Fellowship co-sponsored Seeds of Peace fund-raising supper on Friday, April 7, to be held at the Second Congregational Church in Newcastle. Seeds of Peace is a highly regarded program which brings young people from warring nations in the Middle East together to a summer camp to search for friendship and common ground. The menu will be a Middle Eastern full course dinner with some music and entertainment afterwards. Edgecomb Congo Sunday Scholars have volunteered to help as servers. Appropriate recipes you can make at home are available on request. Speak to Bob Hardina, or volunteer online at adburt@gwi.net.

Louise Hardina says she has a brochure available describing the Edgecomb Congregational Thrift Shop and its mission. Now that all the start-up expenses have been paid, the Meals on Wheels program of Senior Spectrum will be the recipient of the first month's profits. Thanks, everyone! "We still need a refrigerator with a good-sized freezer. Anyone who has one, or knows of someone, arrangements can be made for pick up and delivery." Call Louise at 563-5236 about this.

More Lobster Quadrilling at the Wiscasset Public Library: an all day showing of the video "Let's Go Lobstering!" on Saturday, March 18. The Maine Maritime Museum in Bath has an on-going exhibit devoted to lobstering, including a classic 1950s film written and narrated by philosopher E.B. White. (He wrote Charlotte's Web among other works.) If you are an active participant in the Community Read program, museum admission will be free. Call the Library for more information on this entire series, or check out the website www.midcoastreads.com.

Come to hear about the current Medicare crisis at Chat ‘n' Check, the blood pressure testing service at the Edgecomb Congregational Church! We will meet Thursday, March 23, at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30, we will have our speaker, a representative from Senior Spectrum. Lunch will follow the talk. The public is welcome! Call Gail Boudin at 882-7972 for more details.

High school Juniors interested in marine science and oceanography! There is barely still time to apply for the Bigelow Laboratory's Keller BLOOM Program deadline is tomorrow, March 17! This experience will give you and 15 other Maine students a week at Bigelow with some of the best scientists in these fields, in the country! This year the week will span May 14 to 18, including a day-long research trip up the Sheepscot River for sampling and data collection to be analyzed using Bigelow's equipment and computer models. A rich opportunity for learning about the ocean environment, marine biology, and the exploration of career possibilities in these areas of concern. Visit www.bigelow.org/keller for more information, application materials, and to see highlights from last year's program. Letters of recommendation can be e-mailed to npoulton@bigelow.org. Do it now! Open to students from both public and private schools; home schoolers should inquire. Ask for a little time leeway to get your recommendations together (I am guessing that three letters should be enough but ask to make sure).
