Come all Edgecomb Democrats, elders and young, come caucus, be raucous, when hats will be flung into rings at the Great Salt Bay School, where you'll meet, for votes to deliver and candidates greet, on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 2:00 p.m. in the school's cafeteria. The caucus will choose delegates to the State Democratic Convention in Augusta, June 2 to 4; also to be chosen are members of the county and several town committees. For more information, call Zibette Dean, 633-0734.

The first of two Public Informational Meetings on state-required amendments to the Town's Land Use Ordinances will be held by the Edgecomb Planning Board on Thursday, March 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the Edgecomb Town Hall. Please consult the website www.Edgecomb.org for details on the issues. Click on Planning Board Minutes for January. These meetings are required before the Public Hearing, after which no further changes may be made.

Tax Collector Alert: The preprints for registered boats are in, and also the excise tax stickers for documented boats. Anyone wishing to re-register a boat is requested to bring last year's registration if possible. It may not be needed but the word is that the preprints may not be complete. More documentation than necessary is preferable to not enough!

Reminder: The Edgecomb Congo. Thrift Shop is open Mondays 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and Tuesdays 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Call Louise Hardina, 563-5236, for information.

Bruce and I have been lobbyists for a day. Monday, Feb. 13, we went up to the State House to support the proposed LD 1900, to permit direct shipment of wine from vintners to consumers, both within the State and from out of state. The public hearing was before the Joint Standing Committee on Legal and Veterans Affairs. It would be nice to think we could send Maine wines to friends in other states for, say, Christmas or birthdays, or be able to order a sampling of wines from New Mexico or Iowa without incurring penalties ourselves or causing trouble for the wineries.
