The Board of Directors of the Boothbay Region Refuse Disposal District met for their annual dinner at Bintliff's Ocean Grille last week. They enjoyed the fine Sheepscot River view at high tide! The meals were highly appreciated, especially the excellence of the grilled diver scallops! New to everyone, the crusted mashed potato side! Creative! The Edgecomb Fire Department would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the Edgecomb Congregational Church for the fantastic casserole supper they held for the benefit of the department! The Schmid Preserve Committee invites interested volunteers to a work party on the Preserve for Sunday, October 2. They plan to cut down trees which are crowding some old apple trees. Please bring laupers. The group will gather at the Edgecomb Town Hall at 9:00 a.m., and expect to wrap up by noon. Please e-mail Deb Sondergaard at sondergaard@clinic.net if you plan to come, so she can estimate the size of the work party.
Later on in the fall, or else in March, the Schmid Committee plans a tree pruning workshop. You might tell Deb if you are interested in that!

Plans for the Fort Edgecomb Bicentennial were discussed, with a Big Caveat: The hard truth of present-day fund-raising, you gotta have money before you can get money! So, if friends and neighbors come at you with Friends of Fort Edgecomb and Edgecomb Historical Society membership/donation forms, please don't sock them in the chin or slam the door in their faces! Become a Fort Edgecomb Matrosse! That is, the one who cleans up the cannon after it has been fired. Not so much fun, but essential work!
The Shore Road welkin rang with the strains of Armenian music last Saturday, Sept. 17, as nearly 150 guests danced under a tent in the rain to music provided by an Armenian band up from Boston. The occasion was the wedding of Jack and Sandy Sarmanian's daughter Julie to Peter Petrole of Hazelton PA! The couple are now hiking the Appalachian Trail up along the Kennebec head waters, before they go back to their home in North Wilmington, Delaware. Julie works in the financial department of the GWR Medical equipment firm of Chadds Ford PA, while Peter is an area sales rep. for Anderson's Windows. Loads of best wishes for a long and happy life together!
