Waiting for the holiday is like waiting for your birthday. Will we be taller? Wiser? More mature? Nah. And as I write this on Friday, July 1, forgive my skepticism over the cheerful weather reports. We had rain this morning. It is still gray. Daphne and the kids due late tonight. I will choreograph a Sun Dance. Let's see. Stomp stomp stomp, face down, grim frown, sing out "No more rain!" Stomp stomp stomp, face up, eager appealing smile, sing out "Come, sun, come!" Repeat as necessary.

The early warnings all seem to be about pottery! Don't miss Salad Days on Thursday, July 9, at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 pm. For details, call 882.6075 or www.watershedceramics.org.

Then come one, come all to Cabin Pottery's Outdoor Raku Firing, 186 River Road in Edgecomb (up the hill from my place) on Wednesday, July 13; call 633-9966 for times and information.

Not exactly pottery, maybe we could call it "stoneware?" Sunday, July 10, there will be the International Rock Skipping Contest at the Boothbay Harbor Footbridge, FMO 633-2695. International? My Bolivian cherst will go farther than your Mongolian marble, so nyah nyah!

Early deadline for the holiday, so not much to report. Have a Great Fourth! Fly flags, bang drums, toot fifes (or tubas)! May no rain fall on your parades nor on your outdoors grills! Meanwhile, I must turn back to my vacuum cleaner for a frantic attempt to reassure my daughter that I am not a slob! Whooshing up the dust kitties at 234 River Road, 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com. This column appears in several local papers, and at www.Edgecomb.org.
