Veula Reed, from a room full of visiting grandchildren, phoned to report on Mildred Ellinwood's 90th birthday party, June 5. Mildred had expected a family/old friends luncheon at daughter Gail Smith's house in Wiscasset, but to her complete surprise, her daughter Becky from Rhode Island, her two sisters from Massachusetts, and Roswell's sister from Florida were able to come, with assorted children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews! Vi says there were probably 35 people on hand for the fun. Happy Birthday, Mildred!
Every now and then I stray away from Edgecomb for news, and here is a glad tiding about a former upperclassman, Class of 1951, while I was attending Lincoln Academy: Andrew Williamson III, now living in Jefferson, has received the 2005 Distinguished Educator Award from the Bowdoin College Alumni Council for his outstanding achievements in mathematics education, both for teaching and research. Some Edgecomb L.A. alums may remember Andy's math classes while he taught there. Bruce and I wish him and Louise both well!
Lea Wait on the Eddy Road will be among the authors at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens' "Books and Blooms in Boothbay," a book fair on Thursday, July 28, in celebration of the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance' 30th anniversary! Call CMBG, 633-4333 for times.
The Premier Edition of Lincoln County Magazine is out, with a good brief write-up of our Schmid Preserve, and an interview with Roger Bintliff of Bintliff's Ocean Grill, formerly the Sheepscot River Inn.
Website news! Bruce has been for some time building a homepage for the Edgecomb Historical Society. It is still in construction mode, and the path to get at it for previewing is not direct. I'll let Bruce tell you about it. "On www.Edgecomb.org, go to the main page. On the right side there is a list of pages to visit - Selectmen's Page, Planning Board Minutes, and so on. The fourth one down is for the Schmid Preserve - click that and the main index for Schmid will show a link to the EHS site over on the right. When you get to it, take a look at the Ivan Flye Picture of the Week [or Month, or however long a given picture will be featured]. Right now it is a picture of the C.L. Perkins boat. The question to be answered is, where is it docked? If you have information, click and send a message. And while you are on the Edgecomb site, remember that you have access there to Selectmen's minutes, Planning Board minutes, Schmid Committee meetings, and the Edgecomb column - also the new Land Use ordinance, contact information to town officials, just a great site to have on your 'favorites of the web'!"
Enjoying the sunshine while we have it at 234 River Road, 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com. This column appears in several local papers, and at www.Edgecomb.org.
