Yikes! Drop everything and come to the Edgecomb Historical Society meeting TODAY at 2:00 p.m. in the Conference Room at the Edgecomb Eddy School! Spring hath icumen in, behindeth my back! We will be discussing our coming survey of Edgecomb historic and scenic sites with the assistance of Rose Marie Boak of Bristol. Incidently, EHS needs a new Trustee.

Come on along tomorrow night to the Edgecomb Eddy School for spaghetti and Bread and Puppets! Join me, Bruce, daughter Daphne and grandchildren Ben and Kate Klemme (up from CT for Easter!) at the dinner at 5:00 p.m.. Then, at 6:30 p.m., join our students and their puppet mentors for an evening of sparkling entertainment, showing off what our kids have learned. This has been a week-long project of the Edgecomb Eddy Parents and Teachers Club. Thanks, y'all!

Edgecomb neighbors, you are invited to round out the week with a Greet the Spring Contra Dance on Saturday night, March 26, at Mid Coast Co-Housing on Salt Marsh Cove Road in East Edgecomb. Music will be provided by Dave Simpson and Tamara Goltz of Boothbay, Ray Montana of Waldoboro, and Bill and Sarah Smith of Salem MA, who are members of the Co-Housing group. Sarah will call the line dances! Potluck dinner at 5:30 p.m., the dance begins at 7:00 p.m. RSVP to 633.0417.

And also quickly, while there's still time, drop in at the Newcastle Curves (for Women) to see Susie Stephenson's fantastic fantasy hooked rugs! On display there through the end of March.

Okay, you can stop rushing around, now

Happy Endings Department: The cat that showed up at Prudence Cundy's door has been reclaimed by his owner, Elaine Wyman of Wiscasset. Now how did a Wiscasset cat get as far into Edgecomb as Cross Point Road??? Suppose he hooked a ride on the water and sewer barge?

Neighbors, your Town needs you! Please consider running for the Edgecomb offices which are open for 2005-6. Nomination papers are available at the Edgecomb Town Office during office hours, Mondays 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.. Nomination petitions with at least 25 signatures can be turned in through Tuesday, April 5. Offices open are: one Selectman, one School Board member and one Planning Board member (all three year terms); Town Clerk, Town Treasurer, Tax Collector and Road Commissioner (all one year terms). Call 882-7018 during the above hours for details.

To date, Dabney Lewis, who is Edgecomb's Code Enforcement Officer, has agreed to fill out the term of Road Commissioner, and is a candidate for the position for 2005-6. Scott Griffin, son of Russell, is also running for this position. Stuart Smith is a candidate for Selectman, and I have thrown my hat back into the ring, as well.

Tex Blake and her daughter Dawn have been whooping it up in Merrie Olde Englande. When Tex called me about her travel, she was planning to meet for the first time Carole Redmond, her penpal of 40 years who hales from Uttoxeter (pronounced Uxeter), a town a bit north of Birmingham (I looked it up in Rand McNally and wouldn't you know? It was right on the crack of a 2-page map!). They were introduced by mail by Tex' father who was stationed in England during World War II, when they both were schoolgirls in their early teens. Now, at last, they have met face to face for lunch and London fun!

This trip was arranged by Dawn Blake to celebrate her mother's retirement from her cleaning business. Tex remarks she has cleaned the Edgecomb Post Office for eight years, and of course, was the Town Hall custodian for a long time. But now fully certified as both CNA and CRMA (residential medications aide), she is moving on to full-time work at St. Andrews Village.

More Blake news, from the grandchild front, daughter Crystal's kids: Congratulations, young Isabella Blake Parlin, who turned two years old on March 15! Welcome, her new little brother, Timber Jacob Parlin, who is six weeks old. Halloo, Timber Jake! (His pa, Wayne Parlin, is a forester.)

Willie and Joan Myatt of Amory MS and Edgecomb announce the marriage of their grandson, James "Trey" Childers and Latisha Ogle on March 9, 2005. Trey, who spent boyhood summers at "Old Hundred" on the Eddy, is the son of Van Childers and Clara Smith of Amory. Latish is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Ogle, Jr. of Jacksboro TX. Trey is in the Air National Guard and works for Averilt Trucking Company. Latisha will be starting classes at Itawamba Community College. This item kindness of Ruth Bryant. Let us all wish the young couple well, and hope they trend this way for a honeymoon, or a vacation sometime!
