Sunday, Nov. 21, was cold and raw, so the turn-out to celebrate the Edgecomb Fire Department's splendid new Tanker No. 7 was small but enthusiastic. Fire Chief Barry Johnston, fire fighter Roy Potter and family were gracious hosts. The coffee, cider, and various pastries hit the spot! Also present was Chief Forstin of the South Bristol Fire Department. I got to sit at the dashboard, which might well have been supplied by the Starship Enterprise! Chief Johnston reported that the 2000-gallon fire truck had already been blooded! The day before, EPD joined forces with Boothbay's Fire Department and others to fight a major fire at the Knickerbocker Woodworking site, the corner of Route 27 and the River Road. Tanker No. 7 played a vital role, supplying several trips worth of water to subdue the blaze.

On Saturday the 18th, 1:00 to 3:30 pm, a Paper Making/Holiday Ornament Workshop, using recycled materials. If you are interested, call RTCA for details, 563-1507, and start saving your colored paper scraps, and other festive stuff!

Errata: The banner of the Maine 20th Infantry's 1889 reunion which I mentioned last week is apparently a serious hoax played on the Friends of the National Parks at Gettysburg. It was made in 2002, no intention to deceive, just a guy's hobby, but it was sold many times until some crumb palmed it off on the Friends as an original.

Bruce and I spent Thanksgiving in Guilford, Connecticut! We joined the Klemme family (daughter Daphne, spouse Kevin, young Ben and Kate), in residence not quite a month. They are renting a house that overlooks Long Island Sound, so there is another move in their near future. We brought down a smoked ham shoulder, and persimmon pudding for dessert. Non-trad to the core! The holiday weather was not too pretty; Friday the sun was out, but knife-edged winds off the Sound kept us from walking around very much. They have access to a little beach, excellent for shelling.
