Best Bibs and Tuckers Alert! Saturday, Aug. 23, the Edgecomb Congregational Church will host another of its splendid summer suppers, this time to benefit the Eldercare Network.

Congratulations to Merry and Will Clifford who crossed the finish line of the Beach to Beacon marathon Sat., Aug. 2! The Cliffords have competed in this race for several years.

Lee Smith reports an eagle apparently in residence for the past couple of years in trees along their shore front; at least she assumes it's the same eagle!

Amanda Boucher on the Mill Road reports on her week at Camp Tanglewood: "It was a great opportunity to have fun, and I'm glad I went. I was in Cabin 12. Our counselors were named Lily and Sam. There were counselors from all over the world. We met people from Japan, Hong Kong, Ireland, England and South Africa!"

Besides special activities like sprout ball and building fairy houses, Amanda's focus activity was art. "My group made a sign saying ‘Tanglewood,' with a picture of the woods."

Amanda celebrated her birthday during that week. The whole camp sang "Happy Birthday" to her, and her cabin group baked a cake. After eating the cake, they played dodgeball.

In re whip-poor-wills, Darcie Hutchins from Alna reports that she has heard at least one since they moved here, about three years ago. I'm relieved to know that. Now, if Alna can be persuaded to send a few whip-poor-wills to East Edgecomb....

Remember, DOT will be conducting its Roadside Spray program in Edgecomb and other Lincoln County towns during the month of August. Landowners may enter into no-spray agreements with DOT at their Rockland office, 596-2230.

Late summer exercise possibility: Tamara Lilly-Crawford, Manager of the Sheepscot River Inn, has extended an invitation to Edgecomb dwellers to make use of the small tennis court at the Inn. The rule is, of course, guests at the Inn take precedence. Just check in at the Inn's front desk before starting to play. The Inn will have rackets and balls available to borrow as well.

Still sending remote from Bloomington, Indiana. Daphne has had her second foot surgery and all is going well. Keep sending your news to me at 234 River Road, 633-2978, or bonesukl@midcoast.com.
