Get up early in the morning, Tuesday, July 29, to see the Delta Aquarid meteor shower, and again, the following morning, July 30, when the Alpha Capricornids will peak. You may begin to see occasional Perseid meteors, building up to August 11. The Central Maine Astronomy Society's website is http://clary.gwi.net/cmas. They have a new Hot Line, 582-5750, to alert you about any star parties to celebrate these annual extravaganzas!

From Bloomington, Indiana: Daphne's Foot #1 operation went smoothly, and by now she is hopping about on crutches. Just spent a wonderful day with grandson Ben Klemme, gardening. He planted some tiger lily seeds which had dropped from some of the flowers, while I planted some mint and marjoram, from my garden to Daphne's. After supper he and I chased around after fireflies. Just magical, a young child and one of nature's prettiest, most mysterious creatures. I was just enchanted. What have happened to Edgecomb's fireflies? Since coming home in 2000, I haven't seen a one!

This is your cue to tell me they're all around, just not at 234 River Road, 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com.! This column appears in The Boothbay Register, The Lincoln County News, The Wiscasset Newspaper, and at www.Edgecomb.org.
