Highlights of the Edgecomb Town Meeting: The old Eddy School building is to become low cost housing for elderly; we will pay our share for the new Wiscasset ambulance; ordinance changes reflecting the results of the Route 27 Corridor study were voted in. Debby Hammond, Peggy Hammond Doggett's daughter, came to see the Maro Hammond Memorial Trust accepted by the Town. Elections resulted in Rodd Hopper as Selectman, Claudia Coffin as Town Treasurer, Lee Smith as Tax Collector, Russell Griffin as Roads Commissioner, Amanda Russell and Stuart Smith on the Planning Board, and Joe McSwain new on the School Board.

The Edgecomb Eddy School Dedication was delightful! The Eddy School Chorus sang "Peace, Salaam, Shalom," a most fitting mantra for these times, and really went to town on the new alma mater! Guests were James Rier, senior policy advisor to the Maine Department of Education, State Senator Christopher Hall, State Representative Ken Honey, Superintendents of Schools Eileen King and Mark Keegan. Awards were given to those who dedicated so much time and energy toward this splendid goal. We were treated to a nostalgic timed slide show of our children carrying their pens, pencils, protractors from old school to new, and the whole settling-in process. All of this capably emceed by Paul Rich.

On Sunday Bruce and I rototilled and planted lettuce and a few herbs.

Back to business. The new lobster specialty automobile license plates are available at the Town Hall. They cost an extra $20.00 the first time, and $15.00 every year thereafter. For more information, call Tax Collector Lee Smith at 882-7018.

This afternoon, (May 22) from 2:00 on, the Edgecomb Historical Society will be back on the Town Hall balcony doing inventory and housekeeping of our collections. Come join us!

The Friends of Fort Edgecomb need a volunteer safety boat for the Battle of Fort Edgecomb July 14 and 15. Anyone with a small boat who is willing to hover on the outskirts during the two days, just in case an invader or defender goes overboard – so far no one has, but... – please call FFE president Matt Dunn at 377-5335.

Also, the Friends of Fort Edgecomb are raffling off Sandy Griffin's painting, "Portrait of Fort Edgecomb." The drawing will be at the September meeting. Tickets are available from FFE members all summer.

Lee Smith saw her first hummingbird on Mother's Day! And me with nothing but cowbirds at 234 River Road, 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com. This column appears in The Boothbay Register, The Lincoln County News, The Wiscasset Newspaper, and at www.Edgecomb.org.
