Come Wednesday evening, March 26 to hear the children of Edgecomb belt out their new "alma mater," led by its composer, singer-songwriter Martin Swinger of Augusta. The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Swinger, a Maine Touring Artist, will be conducting songwriting workshops for the kids during the days prior to the concert, which will feature some of the songs they create out of "crazy limericks, silly lullabies, even classroom lessons turned into memorable ditties." Donations at the door, to benefit the school's arts program.

Oh, and while I think of it, more clarification: The Edgecomb Town Meeting, Saturday, May 17, is going to be held in the new Edgecomb Eddy School's auditorium. Once the Town's business is done, join staff, faculty, students and families for the Dedication Ceremony, followed by a grand tour of the facility.

One project in the works for the new school is the Edgecomb Historical Society's display of our town's educational history. We meet Thursday, March 27, 2:00 pm, at my house, 234 River Road, East Edgecomb. Come and help us sort through our collection of material, and start planning the form this display will take. Call me at 633-2978 or Sophie Quinn at 882-9326 for details and/or directions.

Remember, if you want to participate in our town's government, call or visit Claudia Coffin, our current Town Clerk, for nomination papers. They should be returned with at least 25 signatures, by April 10. Positions open are: 1 Selectman for 3 years; 1 School Board member for 3 years; 2 Planning Board members, 3 years each; Tax Collector for 1 year; Town Clerk for 1 year, Road Commissioner for 1 year, Town Treasurer for 1 year.

Another reminder: Tuesday, April 1 is the deadline for any homeowner eligible for the Homestead or Veteran's Exemption to submit an application to the assessors (a.k.a. selectmen). before April 1. Call 882-7018 for information about either of the above two items! And yet another reminder: The Public Hearing required in order to adopt new standards and amendments to the Comprehensive Plan regarding Route 27 is, whoops! Today! Thursday, March 20! At the Town Hall at 7:00 pm!

The Boothbay Region Food Pantry is starting to sign people up for Easter Dinner Baskets this week. The Pantry is open in the Boothbay Harbor Congregational Church every Friday from 12:30 to 2:30 pm, and every second Tuesday of the month (next one April 8) from 2:30 to 4:00 pm. Call Louise Hardina at 563-5236 or the Edgecomb Congregational Church (882-4060) for details.

Latest birdlife a troop of turkeys. The toms are so odd, with full flowing Talibanesque beards erupting from their chests! Haven't seen Madame Pheasant lately. Pecking away at 234 River Road, 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com. This column appears in The Boothbay Register, The Lincoln County News, The Wiscasset Newspaper, and at www.Edgecomb.org.
