If, over the weekend, your contemplations were disturbed by the
rattle of sabres, the booms of blunderbusses, it was only The Battle
of Mt. Hunger Ridge, an orchestration by 18th-century re-enactors
headquartered at Camp Blackford on the River Road.
For more insights into this period of our history, know ye that
on Sunday, March 2 at 2 p.m., Edgecomb author Van Reid will be speaking
to the Lincoln County Historical Association at the Courthouse Communications
Center in Wiscasset. He will be describing the research he pursued
in the writing of his Lincoln County novel Peter Loon, set in the
turbulent times following the American Revolution.
A small but vocal crowd attended the Edgecomb Planning Board's
first informational meeting concerning changes in our Comprehensive
Plan necessitated by the results of the Route 27 Corridor Study.
The second such meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 22, 9 a.m.
at the Town Hall. These meetings are leading toward a Public Hearing
to adopt these changes, Thursday, March 20, at 7 p.m.
We have had a regal hen pheasant frequenting our grounds, where
seed from the birdfeeders spills over. She is truly beautiful, soft
pinkish greys, feathers with dim circles which hint that she is
related to the peacock. Once, however, as she was gracefully gleaning
seeds, a chorus of three crows descended and made eyes at her, for
all the world like a hardhat work crew whistling at a pretty girl.
Tossing dignity to the winds, she ran for cover under the forsythia
bush!
Birthdays galore this week and weekend! Many happy returns of
the days for Matthew Tedford, Karen Brown, Judy Reid and Susie Stephenson!
And for all those not named herein because their name is legion,
Happy Birthday, Legion! From 234 River Road, 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com.
This column appears in The Boothbay Register, The Lincoln County
News, The Wiscasset Newspaper, and at www.Edgecomb.org.
