Just when you thought it was safe to swim in the Sheepscot! Another Bypass meeting is coming up, Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 6 p.m. at Wiscasset High School. On display will be conceptual drawings of how each route option will appear to the average resident. At 7 p.m. will be a presentation of the remaining alternatives, with a Q and A session following. Y'all come, hear?

As you read this, your Selectmen are in Bangor at the annual meeting of the Maine Municipal Association, topic: Tax Reform. Wish them luck!

Edgecomb Historical Society meeting at Sophie Quinn's, 8 Cross Point Road, 2 pm, Thursday, Oct. 24. We must plan for the November meeting, and future programs. Bring your ideas and project reports!

Edgecomb Congregational Church's Mission Outreach Committee is hosting a public baked bean and casserole supper on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., to benefit the Meals on Wheels Program of Senior Spectrum. Meals on Wheels, with 70 volunteer drivers, brings warm cooked meals daily to homebound elderly and disabled people. $6 for adults, $3 for children 6-12; those under 6 eat free. Anyone wishing to help in any way, please contact Gloria Bailey at 882-5032.

Be sure to get your mercury-containing discarded equipment and materials to the "Mercury and More" collection campaign by Lincoln County's Recycling (LCR) Department. This month, through October 23, bring them to the BRRDD transfer station, for collection by LCR; or bring them on Saturday, Oct. 26 to the LCR facility on Huntoon Hill Road. Please take this seriously, my friends. Mercury in any form is a serious neurochemical which can cause grave damage to the central nervous system and even the brain. If you are not sure which items contain mercury, or have other questions, call LCR at 882-5276, Mondays 8 am to 1 pm, Thursdays and Fridays 8 to 10 am.

With the Elections in mind, don't forget to register to vote. Town Hall, 1-5 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, Mondays 7 to 9 pm. You can register up to and including Election Day, but less hectic if you do it now.

Watching the Fall foliage (square, with people's names and word VOTE) at 234 River Road, 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com. This column appears in The Boothbay Register, The Lincoln County News, The Wiscasset Newspaper, and at www.Edgecomb.org.
