Mlles. Amanda Boucher and Karen Brown wish to thank the loyal customers at their lemonade stand on Mill Road this summer, especially Fire Chief Barry Johnston! They succeeded in raising enough money to achieve their goal, for each to have a rabbit + cage and other accoutrements. See ya next summer!

The Friends of Fort Edgecomb are holding their annual meeting Wednesday., Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. at Sheepscot River Inn. Featured attraction: the drawing for the Fort Edgecomb quilt!

Saturday, September 28 is the date of the Edgecomb Historical Society's Annual Meeting. Come join us at 1:00 p.m. at the Town Hall for a brief business meeting. Bring your ideas for projects involving the history of our town! Then, on to a Grand Tour of the Schmid Preserve, led by Bob Brown, the Preserve's historian. Wear good walking shoes!

Now is a good time to put in an early word about the Lincoln County Recycling and Waste Disposal Department's Hazardous Household Waste Collection Day. This event's focus is on the safe disposal of mercury-containing items. From now to October 23, Edgecomb residents (no businesses, please) should bring your discarded computers, television sets, fever thermometers and like items to the Boothbay Region Refuse Disposal Center, from which the LCR will pick them up on October 24 and 25. On Saturday, October 26, if you have not already discarded this kind of items, you are welcome to bring them direct to the Huntoon Hill facility.

If you are not sure which items are appropriate, are interested in a hazardous materials handling class, or have other questions, call Heidi Gagnon, co-ordinator of the event, 882-5276, Mondays 8 am to1 pm, Thursdays and Fridays 8 to10 am.

It may not be too late for Edgecomb boaters interested in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary's class in Basic Coastal Navigation to sign up for it. It has just started Wednesday, Sept. 25, and will run through Nov. 13. The class will meet at Damariscotta's Great Salt Bay School at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. There is a $50 materials fee. Call Bill Connell at 563-8428 for more information.

Meanwhile, I drift in the flow from 234 River Road, 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com. This column appears in The Boothbay Register, The Lincoln County News, The Wiscasset Newspaper, and at www.Edgecomb.org.
