Beat the drum
and blow the fife! The British are coming, the British are coming!
Sails have been sighted in the Sheepscot River, menacing Fort Edgecomb!
Come help us defend it! This enactment will take place Saturday
and Sunday, June 8 and 9 at the Fort, Old Fort Road, off the Eddy
Road. 18th-century costumes optional but exciting! Join us for authentic
colonial food, crafts, and skills demonstrations. Call 882-7777
or 829-5753 for more information.
The North Edgecomb
Cemetery Fund Association is 100 years old! Join them to celebrate
at their annual meeting tomorrow, June 7, at 2 p.m. in the Town
Hall. A copy of the original articles of incorporation will be on
display, signed by six officers in 1902. Light refreshments will
be served. All are most welcome.
Tuesday, June11
is the Primary Election of candidates for the Republican, Democratic
and Green-Independent parties. More than that! Every registered
voter, regardless of party status, should come to vote on the 2
Bond Issues, one concerning repairs and improvements in public school
facilities, the other to stimulate job growth, renovate buildings,
defend against terrorism and promote tourism.
The Edgecomb
Fire Department and Chief Barry Johnston want to give their sincere
thanks to Gloria Bailey for organizing the splendid supper May 25,
to benefit the new fire station building fund. Thanks to everyone
for your support!
Northrup Fowler
III advises, for anyone interested in local or state history, there
is an excellent website for old maps, from 1893 on: http://docs.unh.edu/towns/MaineTownList.htm.
Now let's see if the newspapers can get all that on one line! Thanks,
Mr. Fowler!
Carlene Sue
Dowdy has graduated from the University College at Bath/Brunswick,
with a B.S. degree in Computer Information Systems from the University
of Maine at Augusta. The wife of Steven Dowdy of Dowdy Lane, she
is one of those intrepid women who have gone back to college after
raising five children. More power to you, Sue!
And, indeed,
congratulations to all our Edgecomb students who are graduating
from high schools and colleges or moving on from elementary to middle
and from middle to high schools.
In the same
spirit, come to the Eddy School's Big End-of-Year Open House Wednesday,
June 12, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The whole town is invited to give
the old school its Last Hurrah!
A toast to the
future! From 234 River Road, 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com.
