Hey, everyone, it's past Valentine's Day, and some of us still have our Christmas greens and lights up! Time to take them down. Dig out the Easter Eggs. Bunnies. Chicks. "Welcome, sweet Springtime, we greet thee with song..."

Think Daffodil Days! Joyce Pfizenmayer is still looking for a coordinator for Edgecomb business flower orders for this annual American Cancer Society fundraiser. The event will be around Eastertime, which is March 31 this year. But interested persons should get in touch with Joyce now at 563-8530.

Peter Stanley DDS and family of Houlton have been visiting his parents Vito and Barbara Stanley and grandmother Veula Reed on the River Road. The Stanleys came down after spending Friday in Augusta at a meeting of the Maine Dental Association. Peter is the Aroostook County representative.

Sad news for shrimpers. The season has been drastically reduced. Short supply, poor quality. We've been trying to get lobsters to send to a friend in Alaska, but the winds have been so fierce lately, no one's going out after them.

Pileated woodpecker down behind Kevin McQuaid in the ex-Salt Marsh School. Hey! What about a Salt Marsh School alumni reunion? Someone called me with that idea, but has never called back.

And what of the City School? Its building is now part of the Edgecomb Pottery complex. Where are its students of yesteryear? Maybe we need gatherings for all three schools Salt Marsh, City and Eddy--and a tri-campus Kick-The-Can tournament? "Take three giant steps! May I? No, you may not."

Going through my mother's cookbooks, I've come across one called "White Caps," put out by the Lincoln County R.N. Club and personnel from Miles Memorial and St. Andrews Hospitals. Probably in the 1950s, it was printed by "Ditto," very faded purple, but the recipes are interesting, although probably no longer PC. They were submitted by people like Alice Boardway (Lobster Chowder for 40 People), Pearl Pinkham, Ruth Emerson, Ruby Hanley. Does anyone remember this cookbook? Would it be good to reprint it? Under whose auspices? The Lincoln County R.N. Club is long gone, and no one I spoke to at either hospital recognized it.

A similar little book, not medical, very slender, also dittoed, and falling to pieces, is called "Harvest Reminiscences." No credits for any publishing organization. It resembles the Fox Fire series, how to do odd old-time activities such as Apple Head Dolls; Ways of Using Dried Corn by Dana Bachelder; Sauerkraut by Mary Lou Chase; Butchering by Jeff Delano; Salting Fish by Roland Abbott; Root Cellars by Linda Dodge. Anyone recognize these names? Anyone have any similar tasks that used to occupy our attention, and perhaps could once again? I'd love to hear from you!

As always, I'm at 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com, and/or 234 River Road.
