TOWN OF EDGECOMB MINUTES OF THE SELECTMEN'S MEETING
August 21, 2006; 5:00 P.M.

MINUTES of August 14, 2006 were tabled.

  1. CORRESPONDENCE:
    1. County Commissioners, correction of date for District I caucus: August 29
    2. Lee Smith, Certificate of Settlement, Release from 2005-6 tax commitment: signed by all and returned to the Tax Collector
    3. Maine Dept. Administration and Financial Services: grant opportunities
    4. Cope & Cope in re a resident's bankruptcy: noted
  1. OLD BUSINESS:
    1. Bintliff offer: This offer has been withdrawn. The warrant for the Special Town Meeting will include an article asking the Town to authorize $30,000 from surplus to pay for a professional planner to be shared with the Town of Waldoboro.
    2. Flag Pole, letter of thanks to Jack French and Marcia Welch for the donation of $2,200 to pay for the new flagpole: signed by Frank on behalf of the Selectboard and Town
    3. Bypass, letter to Commissioner Cole responding to a similar letter from Wiscasset: approved; signed by Jo on behalf of the Selectboard
    4. Old Fort Road Spur: Mrs. Burleigh-Johnson reported that the court hearing has been put in motion. It appears that lawyers Field (Town) and Hopkinson (Johnsons/Townsends) are approaching the issue from different interpretations of "abandonment.."
    5. Time-Warner notice: referred to Jo
    6. Wright Family: Stuart reported that a check of $1,000, drawn on the Waldo Dodge Fund, has been sent as a Town donation toward medical expenses for their daughter, diagnosed with Hodgkins' Disease.
  2. NEW BUSINESS:
    1. One-Time Liquor License approval: Ms. Lyford's catering company will be serving a wedding to be held at a residence in Edgecomb. License application approved and signed by all. Since this is a one-time occasion, no public hearing is necessary.
  3. OTHER BUSINESS:
    1. Tax Commitment Date: Friday, August 25. The tax bills are in process of being printed; Stuart may ask for assistance in separating the items and arranging for mailing.
    2. Special Town Meeting dates finalized: Public Hearing Thursday, Sept. 6, 7:00 p.m., and Special Town Meeting Wednesday, Sept. 20, 7:00 p.m. Both meetings at the Town Hall. To make revisions to the Land Use Ordinance, Article 5, Section 4.8; also to ask Town to authorize spending $30,000 toward a professional planner.

      Mrs. Burleigh-Johnson expressed the hope that the Planning Board's alternative wording would include a retroactive clause, similar to that presented by the Citizens' Petition.

      At present, there will be five warrant articles. Ervin Snyder must be asked to be Moderator.
